On June 25th, Vast Infraestrutura held the 7th edition of ConversAções, a proprietary initiative aimed at strengthening dialogue with the community in the company’s areas of influence.

The event took place at SESC Grussaí, in São João da Barra, and brought together company employees, local leaders, representatives of civil society, and partner institutions.

During the meeting, the 2024 Sustainability Report was presented, along with the results of the latest Aves do Açu season, including the partnership with PETRONAS Brasil, and the progress made at the Açu Liquid Terminal (TLA).

This month, Vast, in partnership with Prumo, Porto do Açu, Ferroport, DOME, Reserva Caruara, Anglo American, Technip, Wilson Sons, Grupo Minas Port, and Ambipar, carried out its annual Green June campaign. Centered on the theme of “Energy Transition,” the initiative aimed to promote environmental awareness and reinforce the importance of adopting sustainable practices.

As part of the campaign, Vast took part in the Science Fair at Espaço da Ciência in São João da Barra and held a lecture on electronic waste, which was accompanied by an exhibition of creative handicrafts made from reused materials. A roundtable discussion on energy transition was also held at the Porto do Açu Visitor Center (CEVISPA), followed by a closing lecture on biodiversity.

This final event highlighted Vast’s conservation initiatives, such as the Aves do Açu project, De Olho no Mar, and the Sea Turtle Monitoring Program (PMTM), in addition to addressing topics related to the bioeconomy and the links between nature and business.

Vast continues to open increasingly sustainable horizons for energy.

Strengthening partnerships for biodiversity conservation is a commitment of Vast Infraestrutura and, since 2024, PETRONAS Brasil has been the company’s partner in the Aves do Açu project. This week, as part of the project, Vast invited the team to a bird banding activity for the species South American tern and Cabot’s tern at T-Oil.

Bird banding is a research method that provides information on birds’ age, longevity, distribution, migration patterns, and survival rates.

The event was attended by Victor Snabaitis Bomfim, CEO of Vast, Suhana Sidik, Country Chair of PETRONAS Brasil, and representatives from various teams of both companies.

Guests were able to participate in the banding of 30 birds, carried out by specialists from Braço Social Consultoria, and choose one to name.

Authored by Vast Infraestrutura’s Sustainability Director, Adriano Truffi Lima, the article recalls the beginning of the project, which was voluntarily created by the company to ensure the conservation of the bird species Cabot’s tern and South American tern tern that inhabit, from April to September, Vast’s oil terminal (T-Oil)at the Port of Açu in São João da Barra (RJ).

For the past 4 years, the project, which this year began a new partnership with PETRONAS Brasil, has been carrying out actions to protect nests during the breeding season, band chicks, monitor the bird population, and train employees to promote better coexistence with the birds during daily operations.

Vast Infraestrutura is working to become a driver of decarbonization in the maritime sector by partnering with strategic allies who share its values. One example is the WS Rosalvo tugboat, operated by Wilson Sons, which supports transshipment activities at T-Oil.

In a pioneering move in Brazil, the tugboat was fueled with HVO at the Açu Liquid Terminal (TLA). During operations at T-Oil, it reduces carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) emissions by up to 80%, helping to lower Vast’s indirect emissions and overall carbon footprint.

Check out what Eduardo Goulart, Vast’s Commercial Director, has to say about the initiative: “The fact that Wilson Sons’ tugboats are now using a lower-emission biofuel is also very important for Vast. These vessels operate at our terminal and provide logistical support for our STS (ship-to-ship) export operations. In this way, Vast, through its integrated ecosystem of solutions, is able to offer the market a transshipment operation with reduced emissions.”

The publication presents key information about the company’s performance and activities over the past year across environmental, social, financial, and governance areas.

This year, in addition to the guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) 2021 Standard, the report also included sector indicators from the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), in an initiative that demonstrates Vast’s maturity and reinforces the company’s ambition to be a benchmark in sustainability and best practices in its segment.

This year, in addition to following the 2021 Standards from the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), the report also includes industry-specific indicators from the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), an initiative that reflects Vast’s maturity and reinforces the company’s ambition to be a reference in sustainability and best practices within its sector.

With T-Oil consolidating its position as the leading oil export terminal in Brazil and the start of operations at TLA, 2024 was a remarkable year for the company, which also made significant progress in its Decarbonization Journey.

Vast continues to open new horizons for energy.

Aware of its responsibility in the journey toward a lower-carbon world and aiming to better guide its actions in this direction, Vast Infraestrutura has established two priority pathways within its Decarbonization Journey: one focused on developing infrastructure to support vessel electrification, and another dedicated to promoting the use of fuels with a lower carbon footprint in the maritime sector.

The company has been making significant progress on both fronts. Regarding vessel electrification, in addition to the tugboat dock inaugurated at T-Oil in 2024, in partnership with Wilson Sons, and the expansion of onshore power supply for other support vessels, Vast signed a memorandum of understanding this year with the Port of Rotterdam to study the possibilities of electrifying tankers on a global scale.

As for encouraging the use of lower-carbon fuels in the sector, 2025 marked a major milestone: the first-ever maritime fueling operation using HVO in Brazil, carried out at TLA. The use of this fuel, also known as renewable diesel, in the tugboats operating at T-Oil can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 80%, significantly lowering the carbon footprint of Vast’s transshipment operations.

The results achieved so far are a source of pride for the company, which continues to work relentlessly to go further and help build an increasingly sustainable future.

The Wilson Sons tugboat fueled with HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) at the Açu Liquid Terminal (TLA) is already operating in oil transshipment activities at T-Oil.

HVO can reduce tugboat carbon dioxide equivalent (CO₂e) emissions by up to 80%, lowering Vast’s indirect operational emissions and overall carbon footprint.

This innovation adds to other initiatives implemented by the company since the start of T-Oil’s activities, a terminal designed with a low-emission profile. In February this year, a study conducted by Vast and Bureau Veritas confirmed that T-Oil operations, carried out in sheltered waters, emit 3x less CO₂e than offshore operations, known as underway.
