The Açu Petróleo’s Terminal began the operations in August/2016. During these almost 5 years of operation, we have achieved impressive numbers. The company’s solid and sustainable growth is evident when we look at our history of operations. We reached the milestone of the 100th operation in September/2019, the 200th operation in August/2020 and now, in less than a year, in July/2021, we have carried out the 300th oil transshipment operations. In addition, it is very gratifying for all of us that the Açu Petróleo Terminal is already responsible for 25% of Brazilian oil exports. It was with hard work and commitment that we achieved all these achievements! Safety, operational excellence, respect for the environment, our people and the surrounding community is our commitment. Porto do Açu wins World Sustainability Awards in two categories
Port of Açu has been awarded the 2021 World Ports Sustainability Awards by the International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH) for the second time. We were awarded in two categories: The project Together in the fight against Covid-19, in partnership with Açu Petróleo, Ferroport and GNA, and the Protecting Marine Turtles project, in partnership with Açu Petróleo and Ferroport. The award is the most relevant international recognition for best sustainability practices in the port sector.
The award was announced this Thursday, June 24, during a virtual ceremony of the World Ports Conference, promoted by IAPH, the biggest entity in the sector, which represents 170 ports from 90 countries covering 60% of world maritime trade and 80% of container trade.
Açu was the only port in Latin America short-listed in the dispute, among 37 ports from 21 different countries and 64 projects submitted. The winners were chosen by an independent jury of experts from the maritime sector, which represented 70% of final score, and also by popular vote.
Protecting Sea Turtles was selected in the Community Outreach and Port City Dialogue category (environmental dimension). Together in the fight against Covid-19 received an award in the Health, Safety and Security category.
In 2020, Açu had already won the IAPH award in the Safety and Security category, with the Emergency Preparedness Project.

Our sea turtle project is a reference in Brazil in community engagement for education and environmental conservation. It has already released over 1 million turtle hatchlings into the sea. And Port of Açu´s actions against Covid-19 helped to reduce the socioeconomic impacts on the local and port community while maintaining the safety of our people and the port operational continuity. In addition, we contributed to the sector’s international collaboration to disseminate the best practices for preventing contagion in ports”, comments Vinícius Patel, director of Port Administration in the Port of Açu.

About the projects
Protecting Sea Turtles
The program shows that it is possible to reconcile port operations with biodiversity protection. Habitat destruction, incidental fishing and climate change have caused sea turtles to decline at unprecedent rates. Even today, all 5 species found in Brazil are threatened with extinction. In 2020, the project celebrated the release of baby turtle number 1 million into the sea, a relevant contribution to the preservation of the species known as loggerhead turtle, which uses the region’s beaches for spawning. The program is divided into 3 lines of action: sustainable port operations; monitoring and protection of coastal environments and community outreach and scientific research.
The program has already carried out more than 65 hatchlings release actions and educational activities, reaching more than 7,500 people. Thanks to the partnership with the community, the State Environmental Institute and Centro Tamar/ICMBio, more than 14,000 turtle nests have been identified and protected.
Together in the fight against Covid-19
The project highlights Port of Açu’s efforts to protect workers and the surrounding community, especially the most vulnerable population, while ensuring the movement of essential goods and supplies during the pandemic.
Açu was also instrumental in mitigating the effects of the pandemic on the local community, in northern Rio de Janeiro state, by setting up the Humanitarian Actions Committee, and reinforced the importance of an integrated approach among port community and the important role that ports can also play under the humanitarian aspect. The Committee invested in 4 fundamental pillars of combating the pandemic: 1) dissemination of educational information on prevention, 2) contribution to clinical research and epidemiological monitoring, 3) support to health workers and recovery of essential equipment, 4) actions focused on the most vulnerable population.
Açu also took a relevant international role by promoting the dissemination of best practices among ports around the world, as in the development of the International Guide for Ports in the fight against Covid-19.

Founded in 1955, the International Association of Ports (IAPH) is a non-profit global alliance of 170 ports and 140 organizations related to the port sector, covering 90 countries. Humanitarian Actions Committee joins the United by Vaccine movement and announces new package of initiatives
Açu Petróleo, together with the other companies of the Humanitarian Actions Committee, Porto do Açu, GNA and Ferroport, joined the movement United by Vaccine to support vaccination in the northern region of Rio de Janeiro. The initiative had as main objective to support São João da Barra and Campos with inputs and logistical support to facilitate the vaccination of the population. The Committee also confirmed the donation of PPE to healthcare professionals and food to charities in the region. The group already invested R$ 4.3 million in humanitarian actions.

Açu Petróleo signs contract with Petrobras to more than double the volume of oil exported by the company from the Terminal
Addendum to the actual contract with Açu Petróleo at Porto do Açu Terminal provides transshipment up to 240 million barrels in up to two years, an increase of 140% compared to the current agreement.
Açu Petróleo signed a contract with Petrobras that will make it possible to more than double the volume of oil exported by the oil company at the private terminal. Signed in April, the amendment will allow the company to movement up to 240 million barrels of oil – approximately 300 thousand bpd (barrels per day) – through Porto do Açu in up to two years.
Since 2019, when Petrobras started operations at the terminal, the Brazilian oil company has already requested an increase in the volume of operations twice, motivated by the growing oil production and export demand. The current contract with Açu Petróleo includes the export of up to 100 million barrels. This increase represents a 140% increase in the old volume for the new agreement that is being signed. In April / 2020, during the pandemic, Petrobras reached the movement record and Açu Petróleo was responsible for approximately 19% of the company’s export operation.
“With this new contract, Açu Petróleo allows Petrobras to secure its demand for oil exports. We are the main structured solution for oil movement in the country, with a private terminal and the differential of sheltered transshipment (Double banking). This contract renewal demonstrates market confidence in our operations, with an emphasis on safety, operational excellence and logistical efficiency. The market’s confidence can be verified through the numbers of Açu Petróleo, where we had a 50% growth in volumes in the first quarter of 2021, compared to the same period in 2020 ”, emphasizes Victor Snabaitis Bomfim, CEO of Açu Petróleo.
Recently the company was recognized by the National Waterway Transport Agency – Antaq, through the Statistical Yearbook of 2020, as the Terminal for liquid bulk that grew the most in handling. In 2020, 29.6 million tons were handled, representing a growth of 53.2% compared to 2019.
Responsible for 25% of national oil exports, Açu Petróleo already serves all operators operating in Brazil and has shown continuous and stable growth in its business. Since 2016, the company has carried out more than 270 oil transshipment operations, which represents around 260 million barrels.
The company is working on expanding the Terminal. The investment plans include the expansion project with the construction of the Tank Farm and pipeline connection to the existing network. This expansion is highly strategic and aims to meet the growing demands of the export market and the new scenario with the transformation of the refining market in Brazil.
About Açu Petróleo
A partnership between Prumo Logística and Oiltanking, the Açu Petróleo terminal is located in Porto do Açu, in São João da Barra (Rio de Janeiro state), where oil transshipment operations are executed in a sheltered area. It is the only private terminal in Brazil that is capable of receiving Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs) with a cargo capacity of up to 2 million barrels. Our license allows the movement of 1.2 million barrels per day and the depth of the terminal is 25 meters.
Açu Petróleo performs first operation with ship above 30 points at ESI
Today, VLCC Pantanassa concluded a Galp operation that handled approximately 2 million barrels. It was the first vessel to operate in our terminal with a score above 30 by the ESI (Environmental Ship Index), a rating index that identifies the vessels with the best performance in reducing atmospheric emissions beyond what is required by the current emission standards of the International Maritime Organization(IMO). Açu Petróleo encourages sustainable initiatives like this, valuing growth that is increasingly supported by the preservation of the environment. 1 million baby turtles protected and released into the sea
Another great milestone! 1 million baby turtles protected and released into the sea by the Sea Turtle Monitoring Program.
There are 7 species of sea turtles in the world and 2 of them are found in the region of Porto do Açu, between Campos dos Goytacazes and São João da Barra, Rio de Janeiro. In the months of September to March, the breeding period of Caretta Caretta, the Tartaruga Cabeçuda, takes place.
To contribute to the population’s awareness of the preservation of this species, the Sea Turtle Monitoring Program (PMTM), together with Açu Petróleo, Porto do Açu and Ferroport, carry out a release campaign, when volunteers can participate in the release of young to the sea .
To date, more than 14,000 nests have been registered, more than 1 million nestlings have been protected and released into the sea, and more than 50 employees have been involved in the past year.
This time, the moment of release requires new care, so it was done with a small number of participants. Our goal is to protect the environment and life. We hope to soon be able to count on the public to learn even more about the richness of marine life.

This initiative directly contributes to the identification and encouragement of ships with better sustainability performance, valuing the commitment to environmental preservation in the operations at our terminal.
As of January 1, 2021, Açu Petróleo will adopt the ESI. The ESI (Environmental Ship Index) is led by the WPSP (World Ports Sustainability Program) and used by more than 60 international ports.

Humanitarian Actions Committee contributes to the BNDES’ Saving Lives project
The Porto do Açu Humanitarian Actions Committee, formed by the companies Açu Petróleo, GNA, Ferroport and Porto do Açu Operações, together with BW and Siemens Foundation, donated four thousand reais to the “Saving Lives” crowdfunding project from BNDES (National Economic and Social Development Bank). The donation is an important aid to improving the infrastructure and quality of care provided by the city’s health system at that time.
