In November 2023, Vast Infraestrutura secured the 3rd place in the 2023 Antaq Award in the category of ‘Highest Environmental Performance Index (EPI)’ of the event, held by the Brazilian National Agency of Waterway Transportation.

The announcement was made by the regulatory agency at a ceremony held at the Port of Santos (SP) and the event was attended by Victor Snabaitis Bomfim, Vast’s CEO, Adriano Truffi Lima, Director of Sustainability, and Eduardo Pereira Goulart, Commercial Director.

The EPI is the main tool for monitoring and controlling environmental management in Brazilian port facilities, and in 2022, Vast had already secured the 12th position, a significant achievement for the company. But this year, Vast moved up 9 positions, ranking among the top three in the category.

“This recognition from Antaq is a reflection of our Sustainability Journey, through which we aim to be a reference in sustainability and best practices in our sector,” emphasizes Victor Snabaitis Bomfim.

In 2023, Vast Infraestrutura was a national leader in the handling and export of crude oil in Brazil, according to data from the Waterway Statistics released in November by ANTAQ (the Brazilian National Agency for Waterway Transportation). The study shows that Vast ranked 1st in oil export and 2nd in crude oil handling.

Altogether, in the first nine months of 2023, the company’s terminal exported 21.76 million tons of oil, an amount equivalent to a 44.1% growth compared to the same period in 2022 and representing a 44% market share for Vast. As for the handling, it amounted to 43.2 million tons, 42.7% more than in 2022.

The numbers demonstrate the strength that the company has been building in Brazil and the confidence that the market places in Vast.

Throughout 2023, Vast Infraestrutura signed four memorandum of undersanding (MoUs) with major oil and gas companies to carry out studies on oil storage at Porto do Açu, as part of its SPOT Project, which foresees the construction of the 1st private oil storage park in Brazil.

The agreements establish joint studies on storage opportunities, and other companies can still join the project, which involves a planned investment of R$2.5 billion. The project includes the construction of 12 tanks with a total capacity of 5.7 million barrels of oil and two pipelines that will connect Vast’s terminal to the oil pipeline network in the Southeast region of Brazil.

“These agreements are another step in consolidating Vast Infraestrutura’s terminal as a hub for oil handling and exportation, allowing an expansion of its service offerings as a liquid logistics operator,” emphasizes Victor Snabaitis Bomfim, Vast’s CEO.

In October 2023, Vast Infraestrutura received, for the second consecutive year, the GHG Protocol Gold Seal for the verification of its greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) inventory. This achievement reflects the company’s growth in this area and its commitment to reducing emissions.

Having started the monitoring of GHG emissions in its operations in 2019, since 2022, when the company received the Gold Seal for the first time, Vast also submits it to the GHG Protocol system. In 2023, however, the accomplishment was even more significant, since, unlike the previous year, all three scopes established by the system were encompassed.

Although it has always monitored the Scope 3, which refers to the indirect emissions from its operations, Vast did not audited and validated it, since it refers to emissions not directly emitted by the company, but by its suppliers.

Nevertheless, the growth and maturity of the company have enabled it to achieve this milestone, and now Vast also reports emissions from the third scope, which currently accounts for 99% of its inventory.

In September 13th 2023, Vast Infraestrutura held the 4th edition of ConversAções, a proprietary event specifically focused on engaging with the local community in its operational area, in São João da Barra (Rio de Janeiro).

The gathering took place at the Instituto Federal Fluminense (IFF) and brought together, besides company employees, local leaders, representatives from universities and municipal authorities, public officials such as the Navy and Fire Department, and members of regional conservation units for another round of dialogue and active listening.

The event agenda included a presentation of some of the company’s key socio-environmental initiatives in the region, and a survey to update Vast’s material topics.

During the occasion, Vast’s team, along with the Ondas Sustentáveis consultancy, heard from the community and captured their perceptions regarding the topics presented to participants, who were able to evaluate and classify the level of priority that they believe each theme should have. The survey results were taken into account in the update process of the company’s material topics.

Our commercial contract has just been renewed for another period of oil transshipment services for the french company, which has been operating with Vast since March 2020.

We will continue to handle oil barrels together, primarily involving VLCC and Suezmax vessels.

On August 30th, we took part in the Shell ceremony and were highlighted in the “Decarbonization” category, which evaluated the initiatives of the company’s contractors and partners aimed at reducing carbon emissions.

Our work, titled ‘Vast’s Decarbonization Journey,’ submitted for the award, discusses the development and implementation of all our emissions mitigation actions to date, including the formulation of our decarbonization strategy in 2022 and the future initiatives planned to achieve our goal.

This achievement is a source of great pride for us, as well as demonstrating that we are on the right track and aligned with our clients, who are important partners in making this journey possible.

Our CEO, Victor Snabaitis Bomfim, took part in the 3rd Webinar ‘Energia em Foco’ by FGV Energia, alongside key figures from the O&G market.

During the event, we discussed challenges in logistics infrastructure among the recovery of the fuel market and economic growth in Brazil.

Themes covered included debates on logistics investments and fuel production increase. We emphasized the importance of coastal shipping to reduce carbon footprint and deliberated on infrastructure in energy transition, positioning Brazil as a focal point of this transition.

This encounter reaffirms our commitment to drive valuable discussions for the growth of the O&G market.

Vast is proud to share that, in July, we achieved a record of 23 transshipment operations carried out in a single month, representing a movement of approximately 730k barrels per day at our terminal.

This number is the result of dedication and effort from the Vast team, who, together with the Oiltanking team, were able to fulfill all the demanded operations. This performance demonstrates the leading role that our terminal holds in the Brazilian oil export market.

Results like these consolidate Vast’s position as one of the safest, most efficient, clean, and sustainable options for oil handling.
