Vast Infraestrutura has achieved yet another milestone in its Decarbonization Journey: the company has been awarded, for the 3rd consecutive year, the GHG Protocol Gold Seal for the verification of its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventory.

This is also the 2nd time that the company has received the seal having been evaluated in all three emission scopes: Vast’s direct emissions (scope 1), Vast’s energy consumption (scope 2) and indirect emissions, i.e. those not emitted directly by the company but involved in its operations (scope 3).

Monitored since 2019, Vast’s GHG emissions began being submitted to the GHG Protocol system in 2022, when the company received the seal for the first time.

The monitoring of emissions, as well as the elaboration and submission of the GHG inventory are in line with the first pillar of Vast’s Decarbonization Plan, “Emissions management”.

This achievement demonstrates the company’s maturity on the subject and its commitment to building a future with less emissions.

In 2022, Vast Infraestrutura identified an important issue to be addressed internally: innovation. For this reason, with the support of consultancy firm EloGroup, the company created Start, Vast’s Innovation Program.

The program’s trajectory began in 2023 with a diagnosis, achieved through interviews, which indicated where Vast was and where it would like to go on the road to innovation.

From there, together with EloGroup, the company structured the program, which consists of the voluntary formation of multidisciplinary groups made up of Vast’s employees with proposals for innovating processes and inserting innovation into the company’s daily routine.

In the first cycle, which ended in the second half of 2024, 22 projects were submitted and evaluated by Vast’s board of directors and EloGroup specialists, who selected the 10 projects most aligned with compny’s objectives and values, and the fundamentals of innovation learned. The selected teams had the opportunity to experience a “Pitch Day” and a “Demo Day” and present their projects to the jury.

The program was so successful that all 10 projects qualified for the next phase: implementation. Now, until the end of this year and throughout the next, the groups will work to get their ideas off the ground and implement innovation at Vast.

This month, Vast Infraestrutura stood out in the Waterway Statistics of the Brazilian National Waterway Transportation Agency (ANTAQ).

According to the data, in the 1st semester of 2024, Vast’s oil terminal (T-Oil) was responsible for handling 50,2% of all the oil exports in the country and kept the 1st place in the crude oil export market, handling 13,6 million tons.

Moreover, the company’s terminal was 2nd place in the market of all crude oil handling, with 27,1 million tons handled. Vast was also responsible for 68% of all the cargo handling at Porto do Açu, which was the 3rd port that handled the most cargo in Brazil.

The results show all the growth, efficiency and operational excelence of Vast, which is today the the leader in oil transshipments in the country.

In the first semester of 2024, Porto do Açu, where Vast Infraestrutura’s terminal (T-Oil) is located, was added by the World Health Organization (WHO) to the list of authorized ports to issue sanitary certificates for vessels berthed alongside.

The service, done by the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa), is now authorized by WHO to be conducted on vessels berthed at side-by-side as well.

This decision represents yet another distinguishing feature of the services provided at Porto do Açu and, consequently, at T-Oil, contributing to making Vast’s operations increasingly efficient and safe.

Vast Infraestrutura was one of the highlights of the 5th edition of the Portos + Brasil Awards, held by the Brazilian Ministry of Ports and Airports on August 7 in Brasilia, in recognition of the country’s public port complexes and Private Use Terminals (TUPs).

On the occasion, Vast’s oil terminal (T-Oil) was recognized in two different categories, taking first place in Growth in liquid bulk handling and third place in Growth in total handling of TUPs. The company was represented at the event by Adriano Truffi Lima, the Vast’s Sustainability Director.

The double recognition reflects the growth and consolidation of Vast, which today is a reference for operational excellence and efficiency in Brazil, being responsible for handling around 40% of all the country’s oil exports.

Vast Infraestrutura has just announced a new milestone to its oil transshipment operations: the obtaining of the authorization from the Brazilian Navy to optimize the access of VLCC and Suezmax vessels in ballast to the company’s terminal, at Porto do Açu.

The measure allows the vessels to access the terminal by a new fairway, eliminating the need for the full navigation from the beginning of the access, leaving the main channel to remain available for loaded vessels.

This is an important step towards reducing the navigation time and the time between meneuvers, which will bring relevant gains in efficiency to operations.

The company remains committed to making Açu the safer, most efficient and sustainable place to oil transshipment operations.

Vast Infraestrutura has just announced that it has signed a 20-year contract with Vibra to handle base oil at the Açu Liquids Terminal (TLA). The TLA structure will be used as the main gateway for Vibra’s base oils in Brazil. The product is used as a raw material for the production of lubricants.

The agreement strengthens the development of the TLA, located in the Port of Açu and which, from 2025, will function as a hub for storing and handling liquids in general, such as marine fuels, derivatives, lubricants and biofuels. In addition to the tank farm, the new terminal will have two operational berths and tanker loading platforms for the overland flow of liquids.

The terminal will also be able to handle fuels with a lower carbon footprint, especially those that will contribute to the decarbonization of the maritime sector.

Last month, Vast Infraestrutura held, along with the other companies present at Porto do Açu, the Green June campaign, annual initiative that has the objective of raising awareness about caring for the environment.

In 2024, with the tag “#AçuPeloClima” (Açu for the climate), the campaign had as its theme the climate change, topic addressed by ONU in this year’s agenda. A few of the subjects covered were the impacts of this phenomenon in Brazil and in the world, the challenges of the port sector due to this scenario, and how innovation can help in decarbonization initiatives.

Besides lectures, the campaign also carried out an Environmental Fair along with São João da Barra city hall; an Ecofair at Porto do Açu; a beach-cleaning event that gathered 131 participants, including members of the local community, and collected 287,8kg of waste; and a working group between the companies installed at Porto do Açu where Vast presented its Sustainability Journey and its measures to help boosting the descarbonization topic.

In this last initiative, the group discussed how the companies can work in synergy to address the climate change topic in the port context.

In June, Vast Infraestrutura achieved the milestone of 100 oil transshipment operations performed this year at its terminal (T-Oil).

The 100th operation of 2024 was completed on 06/23 and handled around 1 million barrels of oil.

This milestone has been reached by the company earlier and earlier over the years, which shows the dedication and professionalism of the company’s teams, as well as the market’s confidence in Vast’s efficient services.

This month, Vast Infraestrutura successfully and efficiently performed the first oil transshipment operation of BW Energy at T-Oil, in Porto do Açu.

The operation is part of the one-year commercial agreement signed between the companies in the beginning of the month.
