Porto do Açu begins tests for the use of HVO

n partnership with Wilson Sons, Efen and Porto do Açu, the first phase of studies on the use of the biofuel, also known as green diesel, was conducted last month.

In partnership with Wilson Sons, Efen and Porto do Açu, the first phase of studies on the use of the biofuel, also known as green diesel, was conducted last month. HVO is a low-carbon fuel that will be used to power the tugboats operating at the port and has the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Soon, the first HVO refueling for testing will take place at TLA, Vast’s Liquid Terminal.

Vast’s efforts to contribute to the decarbonization of the maritime sector continue.

Vast Infraestrutura installs 51 new photovoltaic panels at T-Oil

Vast Infraestrutura has just installed 51 new photovoltaic panels at its Oil Terminal in Porto do Açu, T-Oil.

Vast Infraestrutura has just installed 51 new photovoltaic panels at its Oil Terminal in Porto do Açu, T-Oil.

The initiative is part of the project that began in 2023, when the first 44 panels were installed at the terminal, and is in line with the company’s Sustainability Policy and Decarbonization Strategy. T-Oil now has a total of 95 solar panels in operation.

The project aims to reduce energy consumption and emissions at the terminal. Together, the panels have the capacity to generate around 7,320 kWh of electricity per month and reduce CO₂ emissions by approximately 3.99 tons per month.

This effort is part of Vast Infraestrutura’s commitment to leading the maritime sector’s decarbonization and a strategic partner in the decarbonization of its customers and partners.

Mar Atento project completes new training courses in Campos dos Goytacazes and Quissamã

In November 2024, the Mar Atento project, created by Shell and Equinor, with Vast Infraestrutura as a proud partner, completed new training courses in the municipalities of Campos dos Goytacazes and Quissamã (RJ).

In November 2024, the Mar Atento project, created by Shell and Equinor, with Vast Infraestrutura as a proud partner, completed new training courses in the municipalities of Campos dos Goytacazes and Quissamã (RJ).

The training courses, aimed at the local fishing community, seek to prepare residents for oil spill response situations, contributing to the safety and protection of marine and coastal environments. In total, the 2024 training cycle certified 29 fishers in “Coastal protection” and 30 community members in “Beach cleaning techniques.”

Vast Infraestrutura thanks the project’s founders and PRIO, also a partner in the initiative, and is pleased to contribute its knowledge in emergency response.

T-Oil operations emit 3x less CO₂e than underway model

T-Oil operations 3x less carbon dioxide equivalent (CO₂e) than those carried out in open sea. This is the conclusion of a study conducted by Bureau Veritas comparing carbon emission levels between the main ship-to-ship operation modes in Brazil.

T-Oil operations 3x less carbon dioxide equivalent (CO₂e) than those carried out in open sea. This is the conclusion of a study conducted by Bureau Veritas comparing carbon emission levels between the main ship-to-ship operation modes in Brazil.

The difference between the two models is mainly because, at Vast Infraestrutura’s terminal, vessels are docked, while in underway operations, ships remain navigating and consuming more fuel.

The result was highlighted by Brasil Energia, which interviewed Vast CEO Victor Snabaitis Bomfim. In the article, Victor commented: “It is possible to further reduce the carbon footprint of operations at T-Oil. All of us who operate and work in this segment has the responsibility to continuously lower the carbon intensity of these operations.”

Vast Infraestrutura promotes its 2025 Sea Turtle Hatchling Walk

As part of the company’s commitment to sustainability, Vast held the 2025 Sea Turtle Hatchling Walk, an initiative of the Marine Turtle Monitoring Program, which has been dedicated to the conservation of these animals for 16 years.

As part of the company’s commitment to sustainability, Vast held the 2025 Sea Turtle Hatchling Walk, an initiative of the Marine Turtle Monitoring Program, which has been dedicated to the conservation of these animals for 16 years.

The event, in partnership with project Tamar, took place at Reserva Caruara in São João da Barra and brought together Vast employees to help release around 20 turtles on the beach. In addition to the walk, the program included an exhibition by the Aves do Açu project, a visit to the Environmental Education Room and a screening of a video about local wildlife.

Since the program began in 2008, more than 1 million hatchlings have been released into the sea.

The Marine Turtle Monitoring Program carries out environmental education initiatives with our teams and the local community, monitors hatchling births, and provides care for animals in need of treatment. Today, it oversees 62 km of coastline, from Pontal de Atafona in São João da Barra to Barra do Furado in Campos dos Goytacazes.

Vast Infraestrutura and Wilson Sons sign MoU for biofuel testing in tugboats at T-Oil

Vast Infraestrutura and Wilson Sons have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to conduct tests on the use of biofuels for fueling tugboats that operate at Vast’s oil terminal in the Porto do Açu.

Vast Infraestrutura and Wilson Sons have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to conduct tests on the use of biofuels for fueling tugboats that operate at Vast’s oil terminal in Porto do Açu.

The goal is to develop and offer logistics services that promote the reduction of carbon emission intensity in the operations of both companies. The first refueling with the renewable fuel HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) is expected to take place soon at the Açu Liquid Terminal (TLA – Terminal de Líquidos do Açu), in partnership with Efen.

The plan, in the future, is to use the TLA tank infrastructure to also add biocomponents to marine fuels. These tests are an initial step toward introducing this more sustainable alternative to the maritime fuel market, where its use is still largely unexplored.

Vast Infraestrutura and Wilson Sons have previously collaborated on the implementation of an electrified docking station for tugboats at T-Oil. These two measures reinforce the company’s commitment to contributing to the decarbonization of the maritime sector through partnerships and energy efficiency.
