OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH
AND SAFETY

Ensuring a healthy and safe work environment and promoting a culture of accident prevention are priorities in our operations. We identify and evaluate aspects, impacts, hazards and risks, eliminating them whenever possible. We also ensure the necessary resources for prevention and rapid response to emergencies and crises, in line with the best practices in the sector. Our commitment includes encouraging the consultation and participation of employees and stakeholders in health, safety and sustainability issues.

ACCIDENTS
PREVENTION

The promotion of a culture of accident prevention includes the identification, analysis and assessment of risks, in addition to the proactive reporting of operational and behavioral deviations, with lessons learned from the investigation of the causes of occurrences. Our SSO processes cover:

Contractor management

We seek to promote the development of our partners so that they reach high standards of performance and maturity in safety culture. Among the processes for managing contractors, the following stand out:

Emergency and crisis management

We maintain an emergency and crisis management structure based on the Incident Command System (ICS) methodology, with a standardized approach to command, control and coordination of emergency and crisis responses, in addition to a hierarchy that defines specific responsibilities. The ICS methodology foresees two phases:

1

Proactive

Emergency management phase, triggered when there is a need for additional plans for control, response and crisis management. It may imply the activation of the Crisis Management Committee.

2

Reactive

Phase in which our Emergency Control Plans (PCE), Individual Emergency Plan (PEI), Mutual Aid Plan (PAM) and Area Plan are activated and executed.

Management encompasses human and material resources shared in Terminal 1, such as the emergency room, health professionals, first responders, firefighters, ambulances, truck and tank pump for firefighting, systems for rescue at height, confined space and incarceration, among others.

Since 2018, we have also maintained an annual training plan for competence management, with theoretical and practical content and mentoring, in addition to functional simulations and resource mobilization to test and practice the skills developed. Our emergency and crisis management is also supported by plans and standards and qualified by the Emergency Response Base.

Establishes the systematic prevention procedures to be adopted in environmental, health and safety emergencies.

Establishes actions for eventual emergency situations of oil leaks in the terminal with the potential to affect the physical integrity of people, cause damage to our property and/or third parties or generate environmental impacts, according to requirements established in Conama Resolution 398/08.

Establishes measures and procedures for preventing, controlling and responding to emergencies related to Covid-19, with a focus on protecting employees and the community.

It integrates the emergency control plans of the companies installed in Açu Port, with joint incident preparation and response actions. It aims to provide human and material resources to supply or improve the efficiency of the individual response capacity of the member companies.

Coordinated by the State Institute for the Environment (Inea), it provides for the integrated participation of all terminals in operation at the Port of Açu to respond to oil emergencies at sea, in addition to institutions of interest, such as the Brazilian Navy, Civil Defense and the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (IBAMA). It is also integrated into the National Contingency Plan.

It establishes the responsibilities and rules to ensure adequate and standardized crisis management, defining guidelines for situations that may threaten or affect our business.

Own base, with a structure of preventive enclosures in transshipment operations between ships and emergency response to oil spills in our internal and external areas. The base operates around the clock (24 hours a day, 7 days a week), with dedicated professional resources, facilities and equipment.

Occupational and process risk management

We maintain plans, programs and procedures for identifying, analyzing and evaluating the occupational risks mapped in our business, as well as guidelines for eliminating or mitigating risk sources. Highlights:

  • Investigation and Analysis of Accidents and Incidents;
  • Procedure for Management of Operational Risks and Environmental Aspects;
  • Environmental risk assessments for continuous monitoring of agents to which our employees may be exposed;
  • Leadership commitment and behavioral approach;
  • Change management.

Rules that save lives

Basic premises of Occupational Safety and Occupational Health (SSO), the Golden Rules must be fully followed by our teams, without overlapping or replacing other applicable legal requirements. They were created based on the most critical risks in our business and cover:

  • Working at height – Protect yourself from a fall when working at height.
  • Lockout and tagout – Verify zero energy isolation prior to commencement of activities.
  • Confined space – Obtain clearance before entering a confined space.
  • Work permit – Only work with a valid Work Permit.
  • Moving loads safely – Plan for safe lifting operations and do not walk under suspended loads.
  • Drive safely – Wear your seat belt, obey speed limits and don’t use your cell phone while driving.

TRAINING MANAGEMENT

To develop Occupational Safety and Occupational Health (SSO) skills and competencies in employees, based on legal requirements and operational training, we promote training mainly on:

  • Regulatory Norms;
  • Internal policies, standards, plans, programs and procedures.

HEALTH AND WELLNESS

We aim to ensure employee satisfaction and well-being through a healthy, diverse, fair and inclusive work environment. For this purpose, occupational health management focuses on the prevention and control of work accidents and diseases and encompasses the following processes:

Occupational
Health Medical
Control Program (PCMSO)

With the identification, analysis and assessment of occupational risks, our occupational physician determines, through the PCMSO, the necessary preventive medical controls to guarantee the screening and early detection of any work-related health problems.

Occupational
ergonomics

It encompasses ergonomic control in the physical, cognitive and organizational spheres, with periodic monitoring and actions to protect the health and well-being of employees.

Quality
of life

It aims to provide tools and resources necessary for the health and well-being of our employees, with physical, emotional and social care. Among the actions are therapy sessions (Psicologia Viva) and encouragement to practice sports (Gympass).

Covid-19
prevention

Establishes measures and procedures for the prevention and control of the spread of Covid-19. During the pandemic, it encompassed actions such as the Covid-19 Contingency Plan; Virtual Work Standard; providing a diagnostic test at the employee’s home; teleconsultation with doctors; plan to return to office activities; Golden Rules for Covid-19 prevention; assumptions and return phases; and training and communication.
