ENVIRONMENT

We act in a commitment to environmental preservation and invest in solutions and processes to continuously minimize the impacts of operations. Additionally, we promote initiatives that aim to contribute to conservation, education, promotion of research and the formation of partnerships – all in favor of acting in harmony with the environment.

ENVIRONMENTAL
MANAGEMENT

Our environmental management is based on mapping environmental aspects and risks through assessments and technical studies, and guided by standards and procedures aligned with our Sustainability Policy. There is also a team dedicated to the topic of occurrences.

MEET THE QUALITY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT AND SAFETY (QHSE) TEAM

Compliance

We carry out our activities in line with the Operating License (LO IN051582) granted by the State Institute for the Environment (Inea). In 2022, we adhered to the Environmental Performance Index (IDA), calculated by the National Waterway Transport Agency (Antaq), which measures the level of compliance of public and private ports in Brazil with environmental compliance. Our result in the IDA was quite satisfactory: we are in 12th place in the ranking of private port terminals.

Management of Environmental Requirements

We seek to adopt effective risk control and mitigation measures, monitored by routine inspections and cycles of annual internal and external audits, anchored in a robust process of Management of Legal Requirements Environmental Audits. We also mapped the legislation and the level of compliance with regulatory requirements through the Greenlegis System. We are annually audited externally to verify compliance with environmental requirements, whose conclusions are consolidated in audit reports DZ-056-R.3 and CONAMA No. 306 of the Oil Terminal (T1).

MANAGE AND REDUCE
AIR EMISSIONS

Atmospheric emissions

Although there is no specific regulation in Brazilian legislation that defines the limits or mandatory control measures for Fugitive Emissions of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC); We carry out 100% of the operations with the vapor balance system, following the best practices of the Oil Companies International Marine Forum (OCIMF).

Environmental index of vessels

Since January 2021, we have adopted the Environmental Ship Index (ESI, or, in Portuguese, the Environmental Ship Index), which evaluates ships with the best performance in reducing atmospheric emissions in relation to that required by the emission standards of the International Maritime Organization (IMO, in English acronym). The objective is to recognize and offer better conditions to ships with lower emissions – from the beginning until December 2022, 18 vessels (in 22 operations carried out) were eligible for a discount of up to 10% in mooring fees, with which we carried out eight operations of transshipment.

Air quality monitoring

Based on the Air Quality Index (IQAr) and following the parameters of Conama Resolution 491/2018, we monitor the air around our operations. Since 2019, we have achieved 100% “good” rating.

Environmental quality MANAGEMENT

Solid Waste and Liquid Effluent
Management Plan

To minimize and ensure proper disposal, we maintain a T-Oil Solid Waste and Liquid Effluent Management Plan (PGRSEL) and a conscious consumption program. The Plan presents the necessary procedures to guarantee the environmental quality of the area of our development and surrounding regions. With this commitment, we have four Effluent Treatment Stations in our terminal, sufficient to treat 100% of our generated effluent, as well as ensuring that 100% of the waste generated in our operations is properly disposed.

Marine Monitoring Program – Water, Sediment and Biota (PMM)

Through the PMM, we have evaluated, since the beginning of our activities, the quality of water, marine sediment and marine aquatic biota (planktonic, benthic and ichthyofauna communities), with analyzes on samples from 19 points. The objective is to monitor the quality of marine water, bottom sediment and aquatic biota, considering the parameters recommended in the current environmental legislation.

ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AND
BIODIVERSITY PRESERVATION

Marine Turtle Conservation Program

We are located in an area of great importance for biodiversity, where loggerhead turtles reproduce, which is why, in partnership with other companies in Açu Port, we are part of preservation initiatives, such as the Sea Turtle Conservation Program. The initiative, which has the collaboration of Fundação Pró-Tamar as executor, aims to protect, monitor and research the predominant species of turtles in the port area and its surroundings, especially the Caretta caretta, including monitoring activities, carried out daily, in an area with extension of 62 kilometers of beaches, from Pontal de Atafona, in São João da Barra, to Barra do Furado, in Campos dos Goytacazes. The program complies with the technical guidelines of the Chico Mendes Institute for Conservation and Biodiversity (ICMBio) – Tamar and the State Institute for the Environment (Inea) and includes:

  • Identification and protection of nests, with egg count, monitoring of the incubation period and birth success rate;
  • Collection of biometric data of sighted turtles;
  • Referral to the veterinary center of animals in need of treatment;
  • Necropsy of dead turtles located, whose data are shared with the scientific community for contribution to the National Action Plan for the Conservation of Sea Turtles;
  • Awareness actions for surrounding communities, employees, fishermen, tourists and students;
  • Promotion of educational actions, with releases of sea turtles open to the public;

Reforestation Program at the Caruara Reserve

At the end of 2021, we completed the mission to recompose, with native species, 439 hectares required as compensation for the suppression of vegetation in the area of our former logistics yard. We planted 382.46 hectares in the Private Natural Heritage Reserve (RPPN) Fazenda Caruara and 56.54 hectares in the Marginal Protection Strip (FMP) of Lagoa de Iquipari. As a continuation of the Program, the next steps include the maintenance and subsequent settlement of these planted areas.

In 2022, the Caruara Reserve also gained a headquarters open for visitation, contributing to the socioeconomic development of the surroundings.

Enviroment

We act in a commitment to environmental preservation and invest in solutions and processes to continuously minimize the impacts of operations. Additionally, we promote initiatives that aim to contribute to conservation, education, promotion of research and the formation of partnerships – all in favor of acting in harmony with the environment.
